Gospel of Mark 12: Who is my family? (3:20-35)
About This Message
Family is complicated.
For some, it brings warmth, belonging, and great memories. For others, it carries pain, distance, or loss. And in a world where traditional family structures are shifting, many people are searching - trying to build “family” through friendships, online communities, politics, or shared experiences.
In Mark 3:20–35, Jesus steps right into that tension and redefines what family truly is.
When His biological family thinks He’s lost His mind and the religious leaders accuse Him of being demon-possessed, Jesus makes a bold and surprising claim: the true family of God isn’t defined by blood or religion - but by those who do the will of God.
This message explores the three “families” surrounding Jesus - biological, religious, and faith—and invites us to consider where we find our identity and belonging.
More than that, it challenges us to actively build the kind of family Jesus is forming - one marked by forgiveness, healing, and intentional belonging.
